经验丰富的加拿大御用大律师——法律英语研习会的白老师再一次为大家进行授讲。
法律英语研习会
法律英语研习会是“为法律的目的而学习简洁英语”，在中国仲裁法学研究会和LexPR律桥的支持下，经霖理律师事务所组织由自愿形成的会员组成。
首席讲解员简介
Thomas Manson Q.C. （白树林）是加拿大御用大律师（Q.C.），目前在北京任教。
专业背景方面，他在加拿大广泛涉及民事诉讼、仲裁、调解和监管领域，担任过私人执业律师和仲裁员以及证券交易监管机构的实施顾问。白老师同时还是中国和加拿大两国多个仲裁机构在册仲裁员。他志愿作为研习会的首位主旨讲解员。
Legal English Study Group (LESG) is a group of members voluntarily formed “to study Plain English for legal purposes” under the auspices of Linli Law Firm, with support from China Academy of Arbitration Law (CAAL) and LexPR.
Tom Manson Q.C. is a foreign expert instructor working in Beijing. In terms of his professional background, Tom has extensive Canadian experience in civil litigation, arbitration, mediation, and the regulatory process. Tom worked in Canada as a lawyer and arbitrator in private practice and as enforcement counsel with the securities trading regulator. He is also on Arbitration Rosters in several arbitration institutions in China and Canada. He volunteers his time to be the first keynote speaker in the Study Group.

“Legal English”
for Beijing Legal Professionals
This introductory session addresses thebroad theme of Legal English in a series of sections over four days (Sunday/Saturday9-12 noon), April 8 – April 28, 2018. The session is structured as follows:
April 8 - Introduction –Participants are introduced to the “rules” of modern Legal English.Participants are encouraged to purchase, in advance of the course Brian Garnet,“Legal Writing in Plain English: A Text with Exercises, 2d. ed. (2013) TheUniversity of Chicago Press. Participants also learn to use legal informationdatabases and online secondary sources.
April 14 – Reading andWriting about Court Cases (Decisions)from the Common Law World – Participants are introduced to general structure ofcourts. Participants will learn how to use to write a “case brief” in PlainLegal English.
April 21 – Reading andWriting about Statutes (Laws) fromthe Common Law World – Participants are introduced to constitutions,legislation, and regulation. Participants will learn how to write a “statutememo” in English.
April 28 – Reading andWriting about Contracts (Agreements)from the Common Law World – Participants are introduced to domestic agreements.Participants will learn how to write a “contract memo” in English.
Certificate
A Certificate of Legal English Study willbe given to participants completing the introductory session.
Advanced Legal English
This session is a prerequisite for“Advanced Legal English” session which will be conducted in May 2018(tentative). The advanced session includes “proceedings briefs” andcross-boundary legal writing and international agreements.
The LESG Study Group is supported by ChinaAcademy of Arbitration Law (CAAL) and LexPR.
